It all started when…
I was often taking my large telescope into school to show everyone the night sky.
Year 10 students asked if I could lead the GCSE Astronomy course for them.
Yes!
What happened next...
About a month into the course, one student stood up and said
"Mr Martin - we're not sitting the exam unless you do"...
I looked at another teacher who was coming to the sessions - "Eileen, we have a problem!"

Exam Day...
I never felt so nervous in all my life. It had been a very long time since I sat an exam.
Dressed in school uniform - my time had come!
What happened next...
We all passed - PHEW! Then the wonderful students said I had to stop teaching and write the textbook for the course - because they found learning from my work so straightforward.
So I stopped teaching at the school and wrote the new e-textbook and it was endorsed by the Edexcel exam board...
We've never looked back!
